the 8A lions will be taking a trip to the theatre on november 26th to compare the film adaptation to the novel they are currently studying, catching fire. one of the purposes of the fieldtrip is to sow the students how many events and details are left out of movies in the interest of time and to foster an appreciation, and hopefully love, for books.

-borja the reading class will be covering stories and articles of the strange, scary, creepy and weird variety for the month of october. and what better way to kick off this spook-fest than with the master of macabre, edgar allan poe. after a biographical introduction, we started reading the tell-tale heart and when the bell rang less than halfway through, students were throwing their arms up and yelling, "nooooo!" nothing makes a teacher's day more than seeing students engaged in learning. don't worry LIONS, we'll be back next week with the rest of the story and lots of other strange and unusual stories. pleasant dreams!! ~borja the 8A reading class explored mottos last week. we read an article about what a motto is and how to create your own personal motto. (click here to read the article) we looked at mottos from famous people and businesses and clsed out the lesson by coming up with our very own motto that encompasses our personal beliefs and core values. you guys did a great job presenting and explaining your mottos to the class. i hope you continue to use them to motivate yourselves on a daily basis. here are a few examples of mottos that were created or borrowed:
nobody's perfect you are who you are, be original. think positive go hard or go home think before you speak young people need models not critics it's not impossible, it's i'm possible live freely, think clearly there's no beautiful without B U, so be yourself be strong, don't do wrong never give up and of course there's always my motto which you'll be hearing a lot of this year...be good. read books. ~mrs. borja |
